The church that meets at North Gardendale is a congregation of Christians redeemed by the blood of Jesus.
We are not affiliated with any other church or organization.
We use the Bible as our only source of authority for the things we practice.
We believe it is sufficient to instruct us in how we ought to live and worship in order to please God.
The local congregation at North Gardendale was started by a group of Christians in 1971.
The group originally met in the Snow Rogers Elementary School building while the current facility was being built.
The first service was held on March 28, 1971, with 67 in attendance.
Ervin Driskill served as the evangelist for the first 14 months of the church's existence.
In June 1972 Richard Weaver began work as the minister of the congregation. His work continued until 1976.
During his tenure the church met first in the Snow Rogers school building, and the moved to its present facility in November 1973. Six years later (1979) the building was paid off.
In 1977 Larry Lauderdale came to work for the congregation. His ministry lasted only 17 months and he departed in May 1978.
He was succeeded by Charles Maples, who began work with the congregation in June 1978 and is the longest serving minister in the history of the North Gardendale church (11 years).
In 1989 Maples left North Gardendale and returned to Red Bay, Alabama.
Dwayne Derrick became the full-time evangelist in January 1990, and worked with congregation for more than five years.
In 1995 Larry Rouse moved to the Gardendale area from Lincoln, Nebraska, and began a four-year stint at the church's evangelist. In May 1999 Rouse left North Gardendale to become the evangelist at the Cahaba Heighs congregation.
In the summer of 2000 Danny Fuller was hired as the minister of the church. Fuller served as the full-time preacher until March 2005, when he departed to become the full-time minister at the Red Bay congregation.
Jeff McCrary is the current full-time evangelist.
McCrary was hired in June 2005, and moved to Birmingham after a lengthy stay as the evangelist at the Helton Drive congregation in Florence, Alabama.
Over the years many others have served the congregation in gospel meetings, singing schools, vacation Bible schools, and miscellaneous endeavors.
They include men such as Bill Hall, David Hartsell, Jeff May, Gilbert Alexander, Leo Plyler, Mike Waters, Wes Brown, Kenny Marrs, Sewell Hall, Randy Jamerson, Bruce Reeves, Sid Latham, and many others.
Some of these men have passed away, but are fondly remembered by the congregation.
The church continues to meet in its facility at 380 Hickory Road in Gardendale. Our current membership is approximately 135, with attendance of about 160 most Sunday mornings.
We hope you can join us for our services any time you have opportunity.
