Near Death Experiences
By Jeff McCrary

The second in a series of four, this sermon looks at the phenomenon of people resuscitated from having no heart beat, or even no brain activity, and who return with stories of some “out-of-body” experience. These claims are many similarities of a floating experience and seeing a bright light that seems to beckon them. Is this a way that God is informing us of life beyond the grave and what it will be like? Can those who have a blessed feeling during this experience expect heaven to await them when they truly die? These questions, and more, are examined in this lesson.
Subsequent lessons will include: “What Happens When I Die?” and “Looking to Things Eternal.” An outline is also provided. If you have further, and specific, questions you would like to ask about this, don’t hesitate to email us.

What Happens When We Die?

Plato pondered, “Who knows that death is not the greatest of all blessings, but man in his fear imagines it to be the greatest of all evils.” There is a mystery surrounding death that has made it the most feared word in any language. It is natural to fear the unknown, but God, in His word, has told us all we need to know about death, and that we should not fear it. God teaches that death is the friend of the faithful. We can face death with anticipation instead of anxiety; we can look forward to rather than fear it. This lesson studies some things that happen when we die that should ease our minds and allay our fears of death.
A subsequent, final lesson will be: “Looking to Things Eternal.” An outline is also provided. If you have further, and specific, questions you would like to ask about this, don’t hesitate to email us.

Looking to Things that are Eternal

The old hymn sings, “Change and decay in all around I see, O Thou who changest not, abide with me…” Indeed, we see change in ourselves and our world on a daily basis, and much of it is not encouraging. Isn’t it wonderful that in the midst of such death and sadness in this world, there are things that are eternal, dependable in every way? The fourth and final in the series, this lesson observes five things that are eternal, and the lessons we should take from this to help us in our efforts to reach heaven when this life is over.
An outline is also provided. If you have further, and specific, questions you would like to ask about this, don’t hesitate to email us.
